The Bible is a collection of different types of writings. Some books are historical of God's interactions with mankind in space and time. Others are instructions and ethical teachings. There are songs, proverbs, and summarized sermons. There are descriptions of dreams and visions. All these are written in the every day language of the people of that time, using all the common figures of speech in human language.
Though written by about 40 different authors, the Bible really has only one author . . . God. God guided the authors so that they wrote exactly what he wanted them to write, as it is stated in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." This verse of scripture not only declares that God controlled the writing of the Bible, but also that this is the only needed revelation from him because living by the teachings of scripture one can become "perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."
